RESEARCH - EVALUATION - MONITORING - LEARNING - STRATEGY

Thank you for checking out my website!

I am currently a Leverhulme Early Career Fellow at the University of Nottingham and an incoming UKRI Future Leaders Fellow at the University of Leicester, where from February 2026 I will lead a multi-country study on forced migration, LGBTIQ+ asylum, and participatory research. My fellowship investigates how global asylum systems reproduce colonial hierarchies and seeks to co-design more inclusive policies through comparative research across Mexico, Lebanon, Kenya, the UK, France, and Spain.

My academic work sits at the intersection of refugee and asylum studies, gender and sexuality studies, religious studies, and medical anthropology, with a particular specialism in Southeast Asian Islam. My monograph Gender, Sexuality and Islam in Contemporary Indonesia: Queer Muslims and their Allies (Routledge, 2024) offers an ethnographic account of queer Muslim subjectivities in Indonesia, and reflects my deep engagement with Islam Nusantara, queer-inclusive religious praxis, and Southeast Asian queer religious geographies.

Beyond academia, I have worked internationally as a consultant and learning partner for organisations such as the Equality and Human Rights Commission, the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, the Westminster Foundation for Democracy, ILGA, and the Kaleidoscope Trust.
